CROW MISTAKE

I was out looking for a groundhog the other day when I pulled into a field that had half the alfalfa cut. I had killed 2 hogs 3 days before with the 17 hmr and the Bat 20 ppc. Well I no sooner turned the ignition off when I spied a head poking out of a cattle guard. Well that was a given with the 17 hmr, only 50 yards away. I just sat there and watched him looking at me......the urge was great but I was looking for a long shot at a willing target. Well 20 minutes passed and I was getting antsy. I was glassing the far edges of this field which stretched to 560 yards, nothing was making a move when all of a sudden 5 crows landed at the far end of the field. Hot dog...TARGETS! They seemed not aware of me which is unusual. Well I set up my box on the door and situated the 2 brick style sand bags. I laid the Bat with the RCR Model 008 stock snuggly into  the bags.  I then ranged the crow targets and got 545 yards 3 times. I then looked at my drop chart for the 20 ppc with the 40 gr. Vmax pills and it called for 3 MOA. Well I dialed the 8x32x56 NXS Nightforce to 3 minutes but no windage. There was a little bit of wind blowing left to right, probably about 3-4 mph. The wind seems not to affect the 40 gr. which is why I'm really loving this little round. I couldn't believe those crows were giving me all this time. Well time to try one. I put the cross hairs on one that was interested in a bug on the ground. He was facing straight at me when he dipped down to run his beak in the ground and that was my queue. I touched that sweet 1.5 oz Jewel trigger and the vmax was on it's way. Well I was back in the scope after the recoil and saw something fly up but wasn't sure what it was because the grass was rather deep. Well it wasn't long before I knew if I hit him or not. CAW......CAW....and the swooping up and down was getting fast and furious. The death cry told me there was a body!!! I quickly chambered another round because sometimes they will land near the body and you will get another try on another one. Well you guessed it ....another target lands! This one was a little closer to me so I didn't have time to re range him. Well I held the cross hairs dead on him and pulled the trigger. BAM and plop, the sound vmax's make when they make contact, there was feathers floating in the air! I ranged this sucker at 522 yards....man, this gun shoots flat. Anyone who has shot crows, knows that they are a hard target to shoot, especially at long range. I was proud of my self to say the least and very impressed with this 20 ppc.  It shoots flat, there's hardly any recoil and it seems quieter too. I really have to watch when shooting it because it shoots so flat. Also the 40 gr. is really working well with the 9 twist barrel which is surprising me and a few other people.

Well there's two crows that got a lessen in staying to long when the varmint master is near by......ha-ha!
